Hi!
Sorry to disturb you now in the middle of the summer. But Im just a "hobby engineer" who likes Engines and I hope to find some answers around your company and your engine. My first and only idea of using a wankelengine came when i saw the new Mazda RX 8 engine. And i tought maybe you could put that engine in a Sled a snowmobile sled. Since then I have been courius about how a wankel could performe in sled. I think it would kick those old 2-strokes butt.
I have some questions about your XR50.
1. How does the cooling of the engine work?
2. How is the reliability of the engine, comparing to a 2-stroke? service intervalls?
3. What weight would it be without the clutch and stripped down.
4. Any plans on putting a turbo on it?
Thats it. But I have some more questions about your company!
1. Are you planing to build bigger engines in the future? maybe up to 150 horsepower or more?
2. Can you build together three XR50 engines into one single? like a 2-stroke 3 cylinder. Im sure you can but is it easy? =)
Hope you can answer back! I would be very glad.

Dear Petter,
Thank you for your message. In “constant load” applications our single-rotor 294cc engine produces around 25kW, a twin would probably deliver around 60kW, and it is something we are working on. Once you get to more than 2 rotors, the assembly gets difficult as the eccentric shaft needs to be made from 2 or more pieces (otherwise you can’t fit the rotor(s) in the middle. Engine port design, lubrication concept and cooling mainly determine how difficult it is to combine several rotors. But also overall dimensions (for bearings etc.) are important.
Our engines are water cooled and fuel lubricated (like 2-stroke), so they are very simple in design and can be mounted/used in any direction. Due to the porting concept more than 2 rotors are difficult, and it is nothing we are focusing on.
A Wankel engine would work very well in a snowmobile, but as you anticipated it would require some more power. Therefore we are well aware of the potential, but since it would take more resources than we have available, it is something we will not be able to work on in the near future. Once we get to a stage where we can offer a twin engine for motocross bikes and the like, we will think about a modified version for snowmobiles as well, but unfortunately this is still years away..
Kind Regards,
Poul Henrik Woelfle
